The Great Read @ Columbia University

header_about3.jpg
I am so excited about this opportunity for families to celebrate reading and fabulous children’s books. On Sunday, October 14th, the New York Times and Target are sponsoring “The Great Children’s Read,” a festival hosted by the Columbia University campus.

Celebrities will be reading from beloved children’s books all day.
Mariska Hargitay from Law and Order: SVU will be reading excerpts of Charlotte’s Web, Brian Dennehy will read from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Police Commisioner Ray Kelly will read from Green Eggs and Ham, Steve Burns (original Blues Clues host) will read from Bud not Buddy, and Sonia Manzano (Maria from Sesame Street!) will read from The Bossy Gallito.

Authors such as James Howe (Bunnicula), Gail Carson Levine (Ella Enchanted), Robert Sabuda (Encyclopedia Prehistorica), They Might Be Giants (Here Come the 123’s), and Julie Andrews (yes, that Julie Andrews) will appear throughout the day and sign books for fans.

The event is completely free, though families may want to plan to purchase books.
