welcome to kindergarten, a memo from christopher
Welcome to kindergarten at Muscota! The first day has us off and running. It is very exciting to look around and see such wonderful smiling faces around the room. The children all seem so excited to share their experiences and lives, so it is with great fortune that I let you know about an upcoming activity. I am asking every child to bring in one artifact, picture or drawing/writing that tells us a bit about their summer experiences. We will begin sharing these artifacts on Monday, September 10, 2007.
If you are internet savvy and enjoy reading blogs, do I have the blog for you. It is the blog for our classroom. I will periodically update it, and post important information on it (including outgoing messages like this). If you go to www.muscota.org and click on blogs along the right side of the screen you will see Christopher’s blog…click on it, and see what there is to know. I am letting you know this so as to broaden our communication between school and home. I do hope you find it helpful.
Speaking of communication, the children will be bringing from home and to school and vice-a-versa with them every day, a special folder. This folder will serve as the most important way I communicate school/classroom news and events. It will also be checked every morning for letters and correspondences from home. It is essential that it is checked every evening. The next best way to get in touch with me is to call me at school. I try to promptly return phone calls, and promise that I will do my best to call you back within a few hours of your call. Another great way to communicate with me is to email me. My email address is christopherw@muscota.org. I check email regularly, and respond quite promptly. I will speak much more about communication during our back-to-school night later this month on Thursday, September 20.
Last but not least, a healthy snack half-way through our marathon mornings make it possible to do the demanding work in kindergarten. So we call upon our noble community to supply us a healthy snack (enough for 24 children) once or twice a year. We ask that all families contribute snack for a week at a time. It is very important that snacks are healthy, excluding the occasional birthday cupcake, or sugar inspired holiday excursion. Snacks that work well are fruits, raw vegetables with humus, cheese, crackers, pretzels, granola, cheerios, yogurt, dried fruits and delicious guacamole. Use your discretion, but lean on the side of fresh and healthy and our mid-morning foraging will make our whole day lively and engaging. If you have any questions or concerns about the week you are asked to supply our snack, please let me know as soon as possible.
a graph showing your week to contribute is on display in the classroom.
all the best and see you around here soon,
christopher
