A trip to the AMNH and a picnic in the park

To kick off the month of June we took a trip to the AMNH and then spirited over to Central Park for a picnic and time to frolic. We surveyed the museum on this visit. We traveled through the Asian Peoples wing, the African Peoples wing, Birds of the world and the Dinosaur section specifically pertaining to the link between dinosaurs and their modern day cousin, the bird. Many of the children were awed by the clever displays and jutting-into-space character coming out of the display area, here Austin is shocked to realize an almost cheetah crouching above.

many of the children lowered themselves to their knees staring up at this prowling figure.

we looked at various habitats throughout the world, and studied the birds that might be found there. nagdalina uses the map and key to identify birds, with Marcos, Seamus and Jaime.

We left the museum and found our selves surrounded by a magnificent day. We safely made our way into Central Park and disappeared into one of the beautiful yards sank below and east of the museum, where we sat with our lunches, rolled down a hill and played about a half cut-down tree.

it was an amazing way to begin our June together. A special thanks to Liz and Shannon for volunteering their time and energy to ensure that we had an educational, fun-filled and safe trip.

Our next trip is June 5, 2007. We are off to the Bronx Zoo.

all the best
