To register yourself as a blogger

To register yourself to start blogging:

Go to http://www.muscota.org/wp to register yourself as a user. “Register” is in the menu at lower right. WordPress will send you a password. You will not be able to write posts until Kari gives you permissions (see below).
When you login with your new password, you should reach a page with your profile. Here, you can change your password to something more memorable.
Also from this area, you can reach the Dashboard, where you have the option to “Write a post.” You will not have access to this until you have writing/editing privileges, so…
Next, let Kari know that you have registered and want to maintain a blog. Email: tech@muscota.org. I will give you “editing” privileges, and I will create a category for you with your first blog entry.
When you log on again, choose “View site” next to the big header “Muscota New School blog.” Your blog will be listed under Categories.

To make your first entry

To make your first entry:

Click on your blog from the main blog page (http://muscota.org/wp).
Choose EDIT next to the entry I’ve made for you.
In the title and text fields, delete what I wrote and put in your own words. This way you don’t have my jibberish on your blog.

To write a new post

To write a new post, from the blog site (main page: http://muscota.info/wp)

select “Site Admin” down on the lower left. The window will change completely to a “dashboard.”
There you can choose “Write a post,” and you’ll get a page with fields for entering titles, posts, uploading pictures, etc.
Add “title” in the title field and your main text in the “post” field. You can also upload images from your computer in the “Upload” field. The “img” button also allows you to insert images using an internet url.
You can “Save” and preview your entry by scrolling down toward the bottom of the page. Some browsers don’t support the preview.
On the left are some details you’ll need to take care of. Specifically, don’t forget to check your category, at right, each time you write. Also, make sure the “author” (way down the page) is you.
Click “Publish.”

To insert a picture from your computer

To insert a picture from your computer:

Below the text field you’ll find an “Upload” field.
Click “Browse” to find an image on your computer.
Give the image a title and description.
Click “Upload.”
A thumbnail of the image will appear in the “Browse” tab, next to the “Upload” tab.
Use the toggle buttons to choose what size you want the image to be in your blog:

o Thumbnail,
o full size
o or just the title.

Use toggle buttons to choose what happens when viewers click on the image:

o File: Link to the full size version of the picture
o Page: Link to a blog entry that is the picture (i.e., the page will show the blog menu and background).
o None: No link.

Click “Send to Editor” to finish. The image will appear in your text field.

To manage comments

To manage comments:
When people read your blog, they will be able to comment on your entries. However, comments will NOT become public until you accept them.

Go to “Comments” in Site Admin/Dashboard.
Select “Awaiting moderation.”
Toggle the appropriate circle (accept, delete, etc.)
Click on “Bulk moderate comments”
Leave comments that are NOT related to your entries and “defer until later.”
